JSON-LD for AI explained

A visitor sees a page, software has to guess. With JSON-LD you say it explicitly: this is who I am, this is where I am, this is what I offer.

What it is

JSON-LD is a block of structured data in a script tag on your page, using the schema.org vocabulary. Visitors do not see it. Search engines and AI can read it.

Types you often need

  • Organization or LocalBusiness for your business and address.
  • Product and Offer for products and prices.
  • Service for your services.
  • FAQPage for frequently asked questions.
  • BreadcrumbList for navigation.

Watch out

Only put in JSON-LD what is also visible on the page. If the data does not match the page, it is worse than nothing.

Testing

Check your markup with Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator from schema.org. AgentRank generates a JSON-LD example for your website that you can copy and paste.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need JSON-LD on every page?

Start with the pages that count most: your homepage, your services or products and your contact page. Use the type that fits the content of each page.

Can a plugin do this for me?

Often yes. Many CMSs and plugins add basic markup. Do check that it is correct and nothing appears twice.
